As of May 1st, the European Union's updated tire labeling regulations (Regulation (EU) 2020/740) are fully enforceable. The new labels provide consumers with clearer, more comparable information on a tire's performance. Key changes include new, stricter grading scales for rolling resistance (impacting fuel efficiency and EV range) and wet grip (critical for safety), as well as information on snow and ice performance.
Furthermore, the regulation requires the generation of a QR code on each label, linking to the product's details in the European Product Registry for Energy Labelling (EPREL). This enhances transparency and aids market surveillance.
Advisory Insight: This regulatory shift favors manufacturers who have invested heavily in R&D for high-performance, eco-friendly tires. Non-compliant or lower-tier brands may face significant barriers to entry in the lucrative European market.
